Renaissance Fair

Our neighbors went to last year's renaissance fair and highly recommended it. So on this breezy late July Saturday (perfect weather for the fair) we headed out for the Bristol renaissance fair at the border between Illinois and Wisconsin.
Despite the fact that it is a very commercialized event (you basically come in to consume food, souvenirs with a renaissance theme,  rides, etc), we had a very enjoyable day. The shows are of pretty high quality; the magician, the acrobats, and the obnoxious clown/acrobat all have wonderful interaction with the audience, all the characters stay in character the whole time, and there are many in the crowd that dressed up pretty elaborately. Plus the perfect weather, a memorable day.

the kids all sort of dressed up (some adults from the commune too), and upon entering the fair first encountered the falcon lady (bird on her left hand).

school holiday 2: out to the museum!

Ming Ming's school friend Claire joined the gang!

such greenery!

Field Museum never disappoints!

concentrated in front of a TV screen explaining the evolution of species.

spent four hours in the museum, picnicked outside, and rushed back to hyde park for ballet class.

and before dinner we managed to squeeze in almost an hour of violin practice for the three girls (well, according to Mike, it does not really count as a practice for Avi and Nourit. but I am pretty happy with it already.)
