daily things

science experiment with Daddy

MM made a laptop computer, with arrows controlling direction for bees

recent drawing

focused on an abacus

pancake dinner with Avi and Nourit

I got last minutes tickets to one more concert at the Symphony Orchestra - Abiyoyo. An African folktale performed by Pete Seeger. his original performance is so good that Ming Ming, after viewing it on youtube, got really excited about the concert. The CSO version is quite different (replacing Ukulele with drum) but still enjoyable. a bit too short though.
Pete Seeger's video is here, enjoy!

MM's drawings

a drawing she made in school

also from school, her first trial writing her own name

drew this at home, another attempt at writing her own name

drew this tonight before bedtime, and wrote her own name!
two families of mice/monsters (with princess names) playing in a field (inside the circle) and two huge monsters living right next door to them (one upside down with three golden teeth).

Ming Ming's self-portrait

I asked her to look at the dry flower and draw it on her buttlerfly wings, and that was what she did.
on the other butterfly she colored it with all the rainbow colors.

looking at the mirror and doing a self-portrait.
the result: a Ming Ming with brown skin, black hair, white hands covered with pink nail polish (because nail polish is forbidden), black eyebrows, white and green and black eyes, doing a ballerina posture, with a pink ballerina dress. and she signed MM three times.

Popo in America

Popo with her morning exercise/dancing group in the park...

MM wrote all these on her own... 很有成績, 明明終於會寫0-3了.
MM is very quick in learning to sing a song, and she can memorize a rather long story very easily. Sometimes at bedtime, I was a bit dozed off and read her stories wrong, like said "cake" instead of "cat" (it was a birthday story), she would correct me right away, even that she could not read herself. But, it takes her a long time to learn to recognize numbers. Antoine tried very hard with her (for like a week back in July), and I am sure they learn a bit in school. now she can only recognize 0-3, and still does not recognize her alphabets.

this is colored around the fourth of July at school, and suddenly I realized MM can really color now.

I like how she colors the face

MM playing with Isabel

MM narrated as she drew. A whole story about a shy witch hiding in a cave because she did not want to say Hello to people. She hid there for three days and the cave had two doors. She was a nice witch and a good friend of Snow White. She gave Snow White an apple, but it was a good apple, not a poisonous one. MM wrote down the whole narrative on her own, just above where my writing appear, in her own invented language.

the concept of "three days" for MM is like "seven days" in the bible. It means a very long time but also not too long. She often inform me these days, "I will grow up in three days, but then the next day I will become a little baby again, okay?"

MM's animals after a stencil, she wrote all their names under the figure (well, in her own writing system).

Art

apparently this is the standard posture at school for art project photos. I wanted to take a picture of her drawing and she insisted on posing for it. She looks really funny!

MM on the phone with papa. This is the door to her room. Now she takes her artwork very seriously. At pick up time she would ask Ms Erin if she could take her artwork home and then we would have to put them up in the house.
still on the phone, trying to tell papa the painting she drew at museum today.
more artwork on the wall
this is the art project from last Saturday at musum. she said that she was painting a princess. I helped a little bit.
Today is from today. it is a prince. I did not help at all. I just asked her where was the head, and she drew it. Same with the feet and hands.
a goat... a standing goat, with horns and tails... She did it on her own too, I asked where were the body parts again.

drawing

MM ran to the kitchen, full of excitment, and told me that this was a whale that she had drawn.
