Kaius came over for dinner and somehow we started discussing
what exploring meant.
Kaius: exploring is looking at things.
Me (playing the devil’s advocate): is looking at the TV exploring?
Ming Ming: not. Exploring is not looking at things… For example, if you look at the fish (we have a fish tank), hummm, actually, yes, looking at things is also exploring. Like, you look at a book…
Kaius: No, looking at a book is not exploring.
Me: is reading exploring?
Ming Ming: it is research!
Me: great! Exploring is learning right?
Kaius: But one time, my mom went to Hawaii, and me, I was in her womb, and we went exploring at the beach, and she got stung by a jellyfish.
Me: great! Exploring is also going to places right?
Ming Ming (start pacing around the dinner table): and when you go exploring at the beach, do you look up or look down?
Kaius: look down.
Ming Ming: right, and you may find lots of clams (we had clams for dinner and Ming Ming loved them so much that she sucked clean even the shells), and exploring is putting them under a microscope and look at them…
….
So at the end of the dinner we came to the conclusion that
exploring is looking at things, reading, researching, going to places,
touching, listening, putting things under a microscope, and most importantly, learning.
