I got last minutes tickets to one more concert at the Symphony Orchestra - Abiyoyo. An African folktale performed by Pete Seeger. his original performance is so good that Ming Ming, after viewing it on youtube, got really excited about the concert. The CSO version is quite different (replacing Ukulele with drum) but still enjoyable. a bit too short though.
Pete Seeger's video is here, enjoy!

Ming Ming the martial artist, after watching some sort of martial arts film during movie night.. I asked her to do her martial art slower, and it became a dance piece.

The Japanese Cherry Blossom festival

We went to the Osaka garden in the neighborhood to celebrate the Japanese cherry blossom festival... too windy and too cold... but Jessica brought a lot of home-made Japanese food.. yuuuummppp!

the kids had a good time running around despite the cold weather... the adults gathered around food, shivering.

The benefit of living in a big city

The best subscription we did this year is at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO). We got tickets for three children's concerts. The first is a kid's version of music history, from classical composers to computers playing a role in the orchestra; the introduction is filled with images, stories, and a lot of interactions. The second one is about the making of opera: how narration and music is combined, what makes up an opera, how a story (about ice-cream) is told through singing. The last one is on dance and music, including classical ballets, modern dance, and musical. The mix of different media (like dancers and opera singers on stage) makes the concerts really fun and accessible for kids.

moving to the Millennium Park for a picnic.

half of the greenwood commune left their beloved courtyard for downtown Chicago (just for one morning)

Kira-sophie caught my camera a lot because all the other kids ran way too fast in the fountain...

the business of losing tooth

This kind of freaked me out. How can she be losing her tooth already? she is not even five yet. But she was really really excited about losing her first tooth. This photo was literally taken one minute after the tooth fell out, there are still blood in her mouth. Ming Ming was jumping all around, and then she wanted to call popo and mamie to tell them about it. It was too late to call mamie or Selina, neither popo nor kaukau picked up their phones. Ming Ming was disappointed but quickly reinvigorated by the idea of the tooth fairy bringing her a present.

Since Nourit and Oscar are very experienced in the matter of losing teeth, Ming Ming is also fairly familiar with the story of the tooth fairy. The problem was that she really expected that the fairy would know about her wish and bring her the toy that she has specifically asked for. and so...

She is laughing in this picture, but she was quite dissatisfied the next morning... no present under her pillow (I had no wish of waking her up by tucking something under her pillow)... the present was not wrapped (I made the headband she is wearing here the night before, did not wrap it)... it was not the one she wanted (Right, I am, after all, not a fairy)... and most devastatingly, the tooth was still there, the fairy did not come at all!!!
At that point, Antoine went back to put two euros under her pillow and took the tooth away. She was told that the French tooth mouse (it is a mouse in France) came late because it needed to take a plane. now the magic creature controlling the matter of baby teeth has finally come, and two euros met with extreme excitement and was then quickly forgotten.

After looking up a bit on internet, I am assured to know that it is quite normal for her to lose her first tooth now because her teeth cut really early. This is a pic of MM in early Dec 2008, she was not even six months yet and already has two teeth, and these are the ones that are falling out now (the second one is on its way out).
