Nutcracker - by Hyde Park School of Dance

snowman dance by the pre-ballet class (the five-year-olds)
the six-year-olds...
this was held at the Mandel Hall at the University of Chicago

the audience... it was pretty full, we ended up sitting on the first floor.
the show started...
Hyde Park School of Dance puts on the Nutcracker performance each year. It is amazing that they managed to find so many adult volunteers dancing in the show (some of them learnt ballet there when they were young). The show features more than 200 dancers. As you can understand, almost every kid dancing in the school would want to be included. Imagine all the rehearing, costume making, stage direction, makeups and everything, the teachers and parents must have put in tons of work to make this happen.
For Ming Ming, during the whole show one of the main concerns (other than getting the story) was finding Julia. Julia is Ming Ming's teaching assistant in her ballet class, and Julia was dancing in the show. But we could not agree on which one was Julia. I could identify her but Ming Ming wouldn't believe me because she thought Julia was a lot bigger and taller. Well, she may look big in class but she is only maybe 10-year-old. On a big stage with grown-up dancers she surely looked a lot smaller but.. Not, that was definitely not Julia.
